The Tape & Scheme Analysis
The final score says 24-20 Georgia. The tape says Florida lost in protection and post-snap processing.
DJ Lagway scrambled too often. Not all were his fault. Georgia won with simulated pressure. They showed five, six, then dropped two. Florida’s 6-man half-slide didn’t hold up.
First quarter, Eugene Wilson III wins on slot fade versus Daylen Everette. That’s Quarters coverage. Safety flat-footed. Lagway throws with anticipation. That’s the design. Quick game to neutralize CJ Allen’s downhill trigger.
Then protection cracked. Georgia ran T/E stunts with Quintavius Johnson looping inside. Right guard and tackle failed to pass off. Lagway felt ghost pressure. He bailed early. Clean pocket, eyes drop, scramble drill. You see it in second half.
His footwork deteriorated after Allen’s early sack. He went from hitch-and-drive to hop-and-drift. Pocket presence is teachable. It’s not there yet. He escaped Johnson once with a stiff-arm. That bought yards, but broke structure.
Run game was better. Jadan Baugh’s touchdown came on Duo. Double teams at the point. He pressed B-gap, cut back versus Zion Branch. That’s vision. That’s why he got the red zone carry. Florida averaged 4.2 on inside zone. Explosive run rate was low, but efficiency kept them on schedule.
Defensively, Florida won snaps. Brendan Bett’s forced fumble on Gunner Stockton was pure get-off. Tight 4i alignment, long arm, rip. He beat the tackle’s inside hand.
Bryce Thornton’s sack is notable. He blitzed from depth. That’s Cover 1 Rat. Sharif Denson held the seam. Thornton timed it. Stockton held the ball. That’s a win for the third-down plan.
Jamroc Grimsley’s interception shows Cover 3 adjustment. Georgia ran Yankee concept. Grimsley played deep third, didn’t bite on dig. He stayed over post. That’s disciplined eye work for a young defensive back.
Special teams mattered. Trey Smack from 54. Clean operation. Big leg. In a four-point game, that kick keeps you alive.
Recruiting & Roster Depth Context
This roster is still portal-and-prep mix. Lagway was the crown jewel. 5-star, Willis TX, No.1 QB in 2024. Arm talent is elite. Pocket management is still developmental. In SEC, that gets you 24-20 losses.
Wilson III is the other blue-chip. Former 4-star out of Tampa Gaither. His role is clear. Vertical threat and manufactured touch leader. Sturdivant, UCLA transfer, was supposed to be the X. He had the contested catch ruled incomplete. That matters for snap share.
Baugh is winning RB1. 4-star from Atlanta in 2024 cycle. More powerful than scat options. He finishes through contact. Georgia needed two to tackle him.
Bett was 3-star portal eval from Baylor who outplayed ranking. He plays with leverage. Myles Graham, former 5-star linebacker, flashed versus Zachariah Branch. That shove out of bounds is coverage awareness. That’s why he stays in nickel.
Thornton and Grimsley were Top-150 recruits in 2023/2024. Florida bet on young DBs. Against Georgia’s 4-star WR room, they held up in man but lost in quarters checks late. Depth behind them is thin. Drake Stubbs got run when Branch motioned. That’s true freshman learning curve.

| The SEC Outlook | |||
| This loss is not fatal. It’s revealing. |
Defense showed it can generate turnovers against playoff offense. Bett and Thornton give real third-down identity. That travels.
Offense must fix Lagway’s clock. Quick game, 5-step timing, boot to reduce interior pressure. If not, Tennessee and LSU will copy Georgia’s sim pressure blueprint.
I see 7-5 or 8-4. Wins over Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Florida State are there. Losses to Texas, LSU, Ole Miss if protection doesn’t improve. Ceiling is a May bowl. Floor is higher than last year because Wilson and Baugh are true SEC starters.
Beat Georgia, you control narrative. Lose like this, you control development. Florida chose development in 2024 when they signed Lagway. Now they have to live in it.
