Florida Gators fall in ESPN FPI Top 25 after South Carolina loss in stunning homecoming blowout.

Florida just hit the wall.

For the second straight week, the Gators got bullied by an SEC opponent. This time it was South Carolina coming into The Swamp on homecoming and walking out with a 38-19 demolition. Two blowout losses. Back to back. And ESPN’s computers have seen enough.

The Slide

The numbers are ugly.

Florida tumbled 10 spots to No. 25 in ESPN’s Football Power Index after Week 6. The rating dropped 2.6 points to 12.6. Jon Sumrall’s team now sits sandwiched between No. 24 Louisville at 12.7 and No. 26 Penn State at 12.5.

The FPI is simple: it measures how many points above or below average a team is. It’s ESPN’s best predictor of future performance, built on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season.

Right now, it says Florida is barely above average.

How Bad Was The Drop?

Ranking: Down 10 spots to No. 25
FPI Rating: 12.6, down from 15.2
Projected Record: 6.6-5.4
Chance to win out: 0.2%

This wasn’t just a one-week dip. Florida fell 8 spots last week after a 45-17 embarrassment at Missouri. That’s an 18-spot free-fall in two weeks.

Playoff Hopes Are Basically Gone

The real damage is in the projections.

Six-win probability: 84.5%, down from 95.1%
SEC title chance: 0.1%
College Football Playoff chance: 2.6%, down from 14.6%
National championship game: 0.1%
National title: 0%

Two weeks ago, Florida had a 14.6% shot at the Playoff. After Missouri and South Carolina, that number cratered.

ESPN FPI Top 25 After Week 6 – Full List

Week 6 was chaos across college football. Indiana erased a deficit at Nebraska, Kentucky shocked LSU, Oklahoma beat Texas, and Georgia survived Alabama. That shuffled the entire board.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Georgia Bulldogs
Ohio State Buckeyes
Miami Hurricanes
Alabama Crimson Tide
Texas Longhorns
Indiana Hoosiers
LSU Tigers
Oregon Ducks
Utah Utes
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Tennessee Volunteers
BYU Cougars
Ole Miss Rebels
Oklahoma Sooners
Missouri Tigers
Houston Cougars
USC Trojans
Northwestern Wildcats
Texas A&M Aggies
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Iowa Hawkeyes
Louisville Cardinals
Florida Gators

Nine SEC teams are still in the top 25, led by No. 2 Georgia. But Florida is now the last one in.

What’s Next For Florida

The Gators are 4-2, but the advanced metrics don’t trust them. The offense that looked explosive in September has been held in check. The defense just gave up 38 and 45 in consecutive weeks.

Sumrall called the Missouri loss “an embarrassing performance in every phase.” South Carolina was worse — it was at home.

Florida has to find a fix fast, or it won’t just fall out of the FPI Top 25. It’ll fall out of bowl contention.
