The Tape & Scheme Analysis
Texas had Florida dead. 17-3. First half. Longhorns in 11 personnel, tempo.
Florida didn’t panic. Sumrall did something smarter. He tightened the box.
First quarter was a mess. Florida ran inside zone into loaded fronts. Texas played Cover 1 man. They blitzed the A-gap. Florida’s interior leaked. Protection was slide left. Lagway had no hot answer.
Second quarter shift changed everything. Offensive coordinator went to Duo and Counter GT.
That’s where Jadan Baugh won the game. Baugh isn’t a bounce runner. He’s downhill. He hits the A-gap with intent. On Counter GT, RG and RT pull. It creates extra gap. Texas linebackers overran it.
Watch the 3rd quarter sequence. 2nd-and-7. Florida in 12 personnel. Texas in quarters. Baugh takes Counter left. TE kicks the edge rusher. Right guard pulls and logs the Mike. That’s a 14-yard explosive. That run flipped field position.
Pass game adjustment was just as critical. Early, Florida asked Lagway to hold the ball. Deep crossers versus Texas two-high. That failed. Pocket presence suffered.
Late, they went to 3×1 quick game. Stick, snag, and glance RPOs. Ball out in 2.3 seconds. That neutralized Texas edge rush. No more 5-man protection. They went to 6-man half-slide. RB checked the boundary edge before releasing.
Defensively, Florida got carved early. Texas hit verticals on Cover 3. Florida’s corners were bailing too deep. Flat was open. Texas attacked it.
Second half: Florida went to Cover 3 Cloud and Cover 6. Much better. Cloud forces the corner to play flat. Takes away quick out. Safety stays over top. It forced Texas to throw into condensed windows.
Key play: 4th quarter, Texas 3rd-and-5. Florida shows Cover 0. Then rotates post-snap to Cover 2 Trap. CB sinks, safety triggers. QB throws late to boundary. PBU. That’s Sumrall ball. Tulane roots. Disguise, then attack.
Trenches won it late. Florida’s 4-man rush got home with T/E stunts. No blitz needed. Texas OT set too vertical. Florida edge won inside.
Recruiting & Roster Depth Context
This win matters for roster retention. Not just rankings.
Baugh is the prototype. Former 4-star, Top 150. Florida beat Auburn and Miami for him. He was billed as a one-cut power back. Now he looks like RB1. That validates the 2024 tailback evals.
Why it matters: Florida’s 2026 RB board is thin. They missed on two 5-stars last cycle. They need Baugh to be the billboard. A 100-yard game in Austin sells.
Lagway’s development is the other piece. 5-star. Elite arm. Pocket still raw. Sumrall protecting him with RPOs and half-slide protection is smart roster management. You don’t break your 5-star early. You build him.
On defense, this is a depth win. Florida played eight defensive linemen. That’s rotation you need in November. True freshman edge Ty Jackson got 12 snaps. He held edge versus 12 personnel. That’s huge for 2025 recruiting pitch to Louisiana kids.
Linebacker depth was exposed early. Mike over-pursued. Will missed fits on split zone. Sumrall will need portal help. This Texas film shows it. Can’t play quarters if your second level can’t sort.
The AP Top 25 return helps more off-field. Florida is battling Georgia, LSU, and Texas for three 4-star WRs on the board. Winning on the road versus a Top 10 team keeps you in that living room.

| The SEC Outlook | |||
| This win buys margin. Florida was staring at 3 losses in October. That ends CFP talk. At No. 20, they control path. |
Bye week is perfect timing. Georgia just lost at home to Auburn. Bulldogs drop to No. 5. They look vulnerable. Perimeter run defense is soft. That’s Baugh’s game.
If Florida steals Jacksonville, record projects to 8-2 heading into November. Georgia win plus Oklahoma at home is realistic.
Oklahoma defense is elite. But Swamp at night matters. Kentucky is No. 12 and physical. Florida’s interior must hold up. That’s Duo versus Odd fronts all day.
Realistic ceiling: 9-3. Floor if Georgia loss: 7-5. Sumrall’s adjustment versus Texas shows a staff that self-scouts mid-game. That’s rare. That alone raises floor.
Top 25 is not reward. It’s leverage. Now Florida must play like it belongs.
