South Carolina women’s basketball lands in top three for 2027 point guard Taylor Brown

Taylor Brown South Carolina 2027 recruiting has reached an important stage, with the highly regarded point guard narrowing her finalists to the Gamecocks, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Brown, a 5-foot-7 guard from Long Island Lutheran in New York, confirmed her top three to On3. She has not announced when she plans to make her college decision.

South Carolina’s inclusion comes after Brown made an official visit to Columbia in September. The Gamecocks hosted Brown alongside fellow 2027 prospects Jordyn Palmer and Jezelle “GG” Banks, giving South Carolina an opportunity to showcase its program, campus and recruiting vision.

Brown had previously visited Tennessee and is scheduled to visit North Carolina, leaving all three finalists with an opportunity to make a final impression.

Brown has emerged as one of 2027’s top point guards

Brown has built a national reputation as a talented scorer and playmaker, but her value extends well beyond putting the ball in the basket.

She is a capable distributor who can create offense for herself and teammates, while her defensive intensity has become another defining part of her game. Brown has even embraced the nickname “The Glove,” a reference to Hall of Fame guard Gary Payton and his reputation as an elite defender.

Current recruiting rankings continue to place Brown among the nation’s top prospects.

Rivals lists her at No. 18 nationally and No. 2 among point guards in its latest rankings. The Rivals Industry ranking places Brown at No. 20 overall and No. 2 at her position.

That ranking profile reflects the level of competition South Carolina is facing for her commitment.

Brown also earned Naismith All-American Underclassmen honorable mention recognition as a sophomore, further establishing herself as a player to watch in the 2027 class.

South Carolina made its move in May

The Gamecocks offered Brown a scholarship in May, accelerating a recruitment that had already drawn significant national attention.

Earlier in the summer, South Carolina’s recruiting coverage identified Brown as one of the program’s key 2027 targets. By September, she had become one of three point guards — alongside Banks and Palmer — to make an official visit to Columbia.

Her September visit gave Brown an up-close look at the Gamecocks during a football weekend, with recruits experiencing the atmosphere surrounding the program and campus.

South Carolina has made point guard recruiting a significant priority for the 2027 class. The Gamecocks have offers out to several highly ranked guards, including Brown, Banks and top-ranked Kaleena Smith.

For Brown, that creates an interesting recruiting picture: South Carolina already has strong relationships with several elite guards in the class, and Brown has been part of that group throughout the process.

Tennessee and North Carolina remain finalists

Tennessee was one of the first major programs to host Brown during the current recruiting cycle.

She visited the Lady Vols in June, giving Tennessee an opportunity to establish its pitch before the recruitment narrowed. Virginia Tech was also involved and hosted Brown over Labor Day weekend, but the Hokies are no longer among her finalists.

North Carolina now has its own chance to make an impression.

Brown is scheduled to visit the Tar Heels, adding another important stop to a recruitment that has already included several major programs.

There is no announced commitment date, so the timeline remains open.

South Carolina’s 2027 recruiting board is packed

Brown is not the only highly ranked prospect on South Carolina’s radar.

The Gamecocks are also pursuing several other prominent 2027 players, including Palmer, Banks, Ashley MacCalla and Zaniya Johnson.

Palmer and Banks joined Brown for the September official visit to Columbia. On3 reported that the trio were South Carolina’s first three official visitors from the 2027 class.

MacCalla has also become an important name for the Gamecocks. South Carolina offered the 5-foot-11 guard in July after her strong summer on the EYBL circuit. She plays with Brown on Exodus NYC and has also been a teammate of Banks at St. James Performance Academy.

Johnson gives South Carolina another major frontcourt target. The 6-foot-4 post from Biloxi, Mississippi, is scheduled to visit the Gamecocks on Oct. 2, according to On3.

The recruiting board, in other words, extends well beyond Brown.

Brown’s decision is now the big question

South Carolina has already checked several important boxes in Brown’s recruitment: the Gamecocks offered her early, hosted her for an official visit and remain in the final three.

Tennessee has the advantage of having hosted her in June, while North Carolina has a visit still ahead.

For South Carolina, the goal now is to turn a successful visit and established relationship into a commitment.

Brown’s latest ranking also underscores why the recruitment matters. The latest Rivals Industry rankings place her No. 20 nationally and second among point guards, while the Rivals ranking has her No. 18 overall.

The next move belongs to Brown.
