South Carolina’s 2026-27 men’s basketball schedule is now complete, giving the Gamecocks a clear path from the opening weeks of November through the SEC Tournament in March.
The season begins with a pair of exhibition games before South Carolina officially opens its campaign at Colonial Life Arena against Stetson on Nov. 3.
The first exhibition will come against Wake Forest on Oct. 15 at the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center as part of “The Scout Exhibition.”
That game is scheduled for 6 p.m., while the opponent and date for South Carolina’s second exhibition have not yet been announced.
The regular-season schedule then shifts quickly into a run of home games before South Carolina begins its series of higher-profile non-conference tests.
A busy start in Columbia
South Carolina will open the regular season with five of its first six games at home.
Stetson visits Colonial Life Arena on Nov. 3, followed by Southeast Missouri State on Nov. 8, Saint Peter’s on Nov. 11, Gardner-Webb on Nov. 14 and Elon on Nov. 18.
That stretch gives the Gamecocks an opportunity to establish their rotation before the schedule becomes considerably more challenging.
The first major neutral-site test arrives Nov. 25 in Palm Springs, California, when South Carolina faces Southern California in the Acrisure Series.
The Gamecocks will remain in Palm Springs for another matchup the following day against Arizona State.
Those two games are particularly important because they give South Carolina consecutive opportunities against high-level opposition outside the SEC.
Instead of playing a single marquee opponent surrounded by easier games, the Palm Springs portion of the schedule creates a compact test that should reveal more about the team’s depth and ability to adjust from one game to the next.
South Carolina then returns to the road for the SEC/ACC Challenge against N.C. State on Dec. 1.
December provides several different tests
The Gamecocks return home Dec. 6 to face UT Martin before hosting Youngstown State on Dec. 12.
Clemson then comes to Columbia on Dec. 15, giving South Carolina one of the more recognizable non-conference opponents on its home schedule.
The Gamecocks will also make a trip to Baltimore for a Dec. 19 neutral-site matchup with Maryland as part of the Battle in Baltimore.
That game is followed by three home dates against North Carolina Central, on Dec. 22, and South Carolina State, on Dec. 29.
The variety of December opponents is notable.
South Carolina will have to handle a road game, a rivalry matchup, neutral-site competition and several home games before conference play begins.
That should make the month useful for evaluating how the team responds to different environments.
SEC play begins with a road trip to LSU
The conference portion of the schedule starts Jan. 2 at LSU.
That means South Carolina begins SEC play away from home rather than easing into league competition at Colonial Life Arena.
The Gamecocks then return home for Arkansas on either Jan. 5 or Jan. 6 before hosting Texas A&M on Jan. 9.
Vanderbilt follows on the road Jan. 12 or 13, with South Carolina then traveling to Missouri on Jan. 16.
The middle portion of January brings Alabama to Columbia before the Gamecocks travel to Mississippi State.
South Carolina will then host Texas on Jan. 26 or 27 before making another road trip, this time to Oklahoma on Jan. 30.
The SEC released its 2027 men’s basketball conference schedule in July, with the league’s 16 teams scheduled for 144 conference games across the regular season.
South Carolina’s conference slate therefore fits into the broader SEC schedule structure that was established for the 2026-27 season.
February becomes the defining stretch
South Carolina opens February on the road against Florida on Feb. 2 or 3.
Georgia then comes to Columbia on Feb. 6 before the Gamecocks travel to Kentucky on Feb. 9 or 10.
Auburn visits Columbia on Feb. 13, followed by Ole Miss on Feb. 20.
The final two weeks of the regular season bring another difficult sequence.
South Carolina travels to Tennessee on Feb. 23, hosts Mississippi State on Feb. 27, welcomes Florida on March 2 or 3 and finishes the regular season at Georgia on March 6.
That closing stretch puts four SEC games against Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi State and Georgia into the final portion of the schedule.
The exact dates for several Tuesday and Wednesday SEC games remain dependent on the league’s listed date windows.
What stands out about the schedule
The most obvious feature is the contrast between South Carolina’s opening weeks and its conference schedule.
The Gamecocks have several home games early, but the schedule does not remain sheltered from major tests for long.
Southern California, Arizona State, N.C. State, Clemson and Maryland give South Carolina several opportunities to build its résumé before January.
The schedule also provides repeated tests away from Colonial Life Arena.
Those include N.C. State, Maryland on a neutral floor, LSU, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia.
For a team trying to navigate the SEC, those environments can matter as much as the individual opponents.
The SEC schedule itself also leaves little room for a slow finish.
South Carolina’s final month includes road games at Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia, along with home games against Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Florida.
The schedule’s biggest question will be consistency
A schedule does not determine how a season unfolds, but it does determine where opportunities and challenges appear.
For South Carolina, the 2026-27 calendar creates several distinct phases.
The opening home-heavy stretch should allow the team to establish its identity.
The Palm Springs tournament, SEC/ACC Challenge, Clemson game and Maryland matchup then provide non-conference measuring sticks.
Once January arrives, the focus shifts completely to the SEC.
That transition will be especially important because the Gamecocks have only a short window between their Dec. 29 meeting with South Carolina State and the Jan. 2 conference opener at LSU.
The schedule also gives South Carolina little separation between difficult opponents during parts of the SEC season.
That makes depth, lineup consistency and the ability to handle road environments important factors as the season progresses.
Those are observations about the schedule rather than predictions about South Carolina’s eventual record.
The road to Nashville
After the regular season ends March 6 at Georgia, South Carolina will turn its attention to the SEC Tournament in Nashville from March 10-14.
The tournament represents the final scheduled stage of the regular season calendar and will bring together the SEC field for postseason competition.
Before that point, South Carolina will have played a schedule featuring home games, road games, neutral-site contests, an SEC/ACC matchup and 18 conference games.
The first opportunity to see the 2026-27 team in action will come Oct. 15 against Wake Forest in Rock Hill.
The regular-season opener follows Nov. 3 against Stetson.
From there, the schedule gradually moves from early-season preparation into increasingly significant tests, eventually leading to the SEC race and the postseason tournament in Nashville.
