A’ja Wilson has added another piece of WNBA history to an already extraordinary résumé, tying Tina Charles for the league’s all-time record for Conference Player of the Week honors.

The former South Carolina star was named the WNBA Western Conference Player of the Week on Friday after powering the Las Vegas Aces through a perfect 4-0 stretch to close the regular season. The award was Wilson’s fifth of 2026 and the 33rd of her career, matching Charles for the most Conference Player of the Week selections in WNBA history.

It was a fitting way to cap another remarkable regular season for one of the league’s most decorated players.

Wilson Dominates During Final Week

Wilson averaged a league-best 27.8 points per game during the award period while adding 8.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per contest.

She was also highly efficient, shooting 56.5% from the field, 50% from three-point range and 90.9% from the free-throw line. Wilson recorded two double-doubles during the four-game run as Las Vegas continued its charge toward the postseason.

The Aces finished the regular season with seven consecutive victories, including a 100-82 road win over the Phoenix Mercury on Sept. 24. Wilson closed that game with 34 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Her latest Player of the Week award also extended an impressive streak. Wilson has now collected at least five Conference Player of the Week honors in each of the past five seasons, dating back to 2022.

That consistency has become almost routine for the 6-foot-4 forward.

Another Historic Scoring Season

Wilson enters the playoffs as the WNBA’s scoring leader, averaging 26.2 points per game during the 2026 regular season. The WNBA’s official player profile lists her at 26.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

The scoring title marks Wilson’s third consecutive season leading the league in that category, according to the Aces’ postseason preview. Her 26.2-point average is also the second-highest single-season scoring average in WNBA history, behind her own 26.9-point mark from 2024.

And scoring is only part of the story.

Wilson also produced 9.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.9 blocks and 1.4 steals per game in the season statistics supplied with the award announcement. Her shooting efficiency added another layer to an already imposing campaign.

The result is another season that has placed Wilson squarely in the MVP conversation.

She entered 2026 as a four-time WNBA MVP, having won the award in 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2025.

A fifth MVP would give Wilson another personal milestone, but her immediate focus is on extending Las Vegas’ championship run.

Aces Open Playoffs Against Indiana

The defending champion Aces finished the regular season 31-13, earning the No. 3 seed in the WNBA playoffs. They will face the No. 6 Indiana Fever in the opening round.

Game 1 is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27, at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, with the matchup set for 4 p.m. ET on ABC. The first round is a best-of-three series.

The matchup carries an added South Carolina connection.

Indiana’s roster includes former Gamecocks Aliyah Boston, Raven Johnson, Ty Harris and Bree Hall, putting several players with ties to Columbia on opposite sides of the opening-round battle.

For Wilson, however, the challenge is familiar: carry an Aces team that finished the regular season with seven straight wins into another postseason run.

The numbers suggest she is arriving with plenty of momentum. The Aces’ final-week surge came with Wilson attacking the rim, stretching defenses from outside and controlling the glass, while her defensive presence remained constant on the other end.

Now the lights get brighter.
