Manchester United want to sell Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho as they see it as a clear move to raise funds for summer signings.

United are open to offers for much of their squad because, although new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has shown a willingness to invest, they are limited in what they can spend under profitability and sustainability rules after expensive signings in the last two summers. they have to sell.

However, they would only let Marcus Rashford go if a big offer came in and the striker wanted to leave. United’s priority is to get him back to the form that saw him score 30 goals last season.

Greenwood scored eight goals on loan at Getafe and any money made from selling him would count as pure profit under PSR rules. Former chief executive Richard Arnold had said the striker had no future at Old Trafford after being accused of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour. While the police later dropped these charges, United conducted an internal investigation and there was a backlash as the club had planned to bring him back.

Although Ratcliffe appeared willing to reconsider when he said in February that United would have to “make a decision” based “on facts, not expectations”, the 22-year-old will be put up for sale this summer.

This includes the signing of Sancho, who was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund for £73 million after a falling out with manager Erik ten Hag. The England winger was banned from training with the first team for four months after refusing to apologize for a social media post criticizing the Dutchman.

United are also willing to sell Donny van de Beek, on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt, as well as youngsters Hannibal Mejbri, on loan from Sevilla, Facundo Pellestri, who plays for Granada, and Brandon Williams, who plays for Ipswich. They are said to be considering offers that match their valuation for the majority of their squad, but Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund are considered off-limits. A group of other players are also expected to remain, including captain Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw.

This means United could be open to an £85m bid to buy Antony, although they are likely to take a big loss on their purchase price, Mason Mount, who made it in his first year at Old Trafford, he struggled, or Casemiro, who struggled, showed signs of decline in his second season in Manchester.

United accepted a bid for Harry Maguire last summer and rejected a bid for Scott McTominay which fell short of their assessment of the Scottish midfielder’s value.

Both have played key roles this season but are part of a group of players whose contracts expire in 2025 and who United could lose on a free transfer if they do not sell this year. Among them, Christian Eriksen and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the most likely to leave if a suitable offer arrives.

United have already confirmed that striker Anthony Martial will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season. Raphael Varane will likely follow, with United having so far not chosen to trigger his contract extension. They are very unlikely to exercise their option to buy Sofyan Amrabat after his unsuccessful loan move to Fiorentina.

United, who may struggle to sell some of their players due to the wages they receive at Old Trafford, are expected to target a central defender and a centre-forward this summer.
