The Detroit Lions’ 2024 season was marked by several standout performances, but one player emerged as the clear choice for Breakout Player of the Year – running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
Gibbs, who was already impressive in his rookie campaign, took his game to new heights in 2024. After the loss of fellow running back David Montgomery to injury, Gibbs stepped up and carried the load for the Lions’ rushing attack. Over the final four games of the season, he racked up over 100 yards on the ground in each contest, cementing his status as one of the league’s elite running backs.
For the season, Gibbs finished third in the NFL in yards per attempt (5.6) and was among the league leaders in explosive runs of 10 yards or more. His ability to make defenders miss and break tackles was a sight to behold, and he proved to be a true workhorse back, handling the increased workload without missing a beat.
“Jahmyr just took his game to another level this year,” said Lions head coach Dan Campbell. “He’s always had the talent, but the way he stepped up and carried our offense when we needed him most was truly special.
