The ‘Worst Ever’ Man Utd Signing According to Paul Scholes: A Complete Disappointment

Paul Scholes, one of Manchester United’s legendary midfielders, has recently criticized what he believes was the club’s worst-ever signing: goalkeeper Mark Bosnich. Scholes, renowned for his extraordinary career at United, where he won 11 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, and numerous other accolades, shared his candid opinion in a recent episode of “The Overlap.”

Scholes, who made 718 appearances and scored 155 goals for Manchester United, described Bosnich’s tenure as a “disaster.” He explained, “I thought he was a good keeper at Villa, but he came to us, he was so unprofessional. Honestly, it was ridiculous. In shooting practice, you normally have like 15/20 shots, after three shots he’s knackered, and I never realized, he couldn’t kick a football. Honestly, I’d never seen anything like it.”

Scholes recounted a particularly memorable incident from Bosnich’s debut season. “We played Everton in the first game of the season and none of us picked up on it, but he couldn’t even reach the halfway line. There was no wind. It was a perfect day.”

Mark Bosnich, an Australian goalkeeper, had previously built a solid reputation at Aston Villa, where he played over 200 matches between 1992 and 1999. He also had stints with Sydney United, Chelsea, Central Coast Mariners, and Sydney Olympic. Despite his achievements, including winning the Premier League and Intercontinental Cup with United, Bosnich’s time at Old Trafford was marred by criticism.

Bosnich joined Manchester United in 1999 but struggled to make an impact and left for Chelsea in 2001 after just 35 appearances. His brief and troubled spell at United stands in stark contrast to the successful careers of his teammates like Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, and Eric Cantona.

This revelation from Scholes adds to the ongoing debate about Manchester United’s transfer decisions and highlights the challenges the club has faced in its pursuit of top talent.
