The New York Jets are reportedly eyeing a potential reunion with a familiar face this offseason – Detroit Lions cornerback Amik Robertson. According to a report from Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department, Robertson has emerged as a “top trade target” for the Jets as they look to replace the likely-departing D.J. Reed.
The connection between Robertson and the Jets stems from new head coach Aaron Glenn, who previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Lions. Glenn, a three-time Pro Bowl cornerback during his playing days with the Jets, is well-versed in identifying and developing talent at the position.
Robertson, 26, is coming off a solid 2024 season with the Lions, where he set a new career-high with three forced fumbles and allowed a career-low 7.2 yards per target in coverage. Though he didn’t record an interception, his affordable $9.25 million salary over the next two years could make him an enticing option for the Jets as they aim to upgrade their secondary.
While Robertson may not be as prolific as the departing Reed, his familiarity with Glenn’s defensive scheme and the potential for growth under the Jets’ new coaching staff could make him a valuable addition. With the Jets expected to be active in the cornerback market this offseason, a reunion with Robertson could be a cost-effective move that pays dividends for the team’s defensive efforts in 2025.
