The Detroit Lions face a pivotal offseason as they look to build on their impressive 2024 campaign. However, the team may have to contend with the potential departure of one of their key starters, right guard Kevin Zeitler.
Zeitler, who signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Lions last offseason, is set to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent. The 34-year-old veteran was one of the best interior offensive linemen in the NFL this past season, earning an impressive 87.2 run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus.
According to Pro Football Focus’ Mason Cameron, the Minnesota Vikings are the top landing spot for Zeitler if he decides to leave Detroit. The Vikings are in need of help along their interior offensive line, having allowed the highest interior pressure rate (18.8%) in the league in 2024.
“Zeitler will be 35 years old when he hits the open market, but his long track record of sustained success across multiple franchises should warrant looks from decision-makers,” Cameron wrote. “The Vikings need all the help they can muster to halt the constant flow of interior pressure they experienced in 2024.”
The Lions will undoubtedly look to retain Zeitler’s services, as he has been a reliable and battle-tested presence on their offensive line. However, if the veteran guard departs the Motor City, the Vikings could emerge as one of the top suitors for his services, especially if they are unable to re-sign their own starting right guard, Dalton Risner.
