Oregon State has landed transfer portal quarterback Maalik Murphy, a former top target for Hugh Freeze and Auburn’s coaching staff.
Described as a “consensus top 5 quarterback” in the 2025 transfer portal, Murphy brings talent and experience to the Beavers’ program.
The Inglewood native visited Auburn just last week and reportedly “enjoyed his time on the Plains.”
However, he opted to stay closer to home by signing with Oregon State.
Murphy began his college football journey as a backup at Texas before having a breakout season at Duke in 2024.
At Duke, he racked up 2,933 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, while adding 2 rushing scores.
His performance helped Duke secure 9 wins, their most in a regular season since 2014.
A potential Gator Bowl win over Ole Miss would push the Blue Devils to a historic 10-3 season.
With two years of eligibility left, Murphy is expected to be Oregon State’s starting quarterback immediately.
Had he joined Auburn, Murphy would have faced competition from Jackson Arnold, Deuce Knight, and Ashton Daniels for snaps.
